Date Night – Sunset Sippin at the Southern Hotel

So Facebook is great about a lot of things like connecting friends and keeping up with far away family but it is also great for finding out about things going on in your area.  I try to keep up on the local events happening in the Mandeville and Covington areas but I miss them from time to time.  I love that on Facebook I see events more frequently when I have a friend like something or say that they are interested.  It definitely catches my attention.

Last week I noticed a friend had liked an event for the Southern Hotel in downtown Covington called Sunset Sippin. The event was actually free and they were going to have picnic baskets available for purchase but the wine tasting and music was complimentary.  I don’t need too many excuses to go to the Southern Hotel as it is beautiful and elegant and the drinks are amazing.  I found a babysitter and got us set up to go.

It was an added bonus that I set this up earlier in the week because I ended up getting sick on our regular date night and we had to cancel.  It was nice to have a Saturday date night and a little early celebrating Big Daddy for Father’s Day.

In true Southern Hotel fashion they showed everyone a fantastic time.  Most of the wine tasting tables had 4 to 5 different wines for you to try and the little picnic baskets were cute and packed with meat and cheeses.  The evening wasn’t terribly hot and there was a nice breeze so it was kind of the perfect evening to sit out in their courtyard.

I read the dress code was “Picnic Chic” which sounded fun.  I knew I was going to wear flats because I wasn’t sure how much standing we would be doing.  Originally I had planned to wear a maxi dress but it rained about an hour before the event so I decided to pull out something different.  This dress had been in my closet for a few months and I had never worn it.  It seemed perfect because it was black but still bright and I love the back of the dress.  THe great thing about having short hair is I never have to worry about how to fix my hair when I wear dresses that have a back or shoulder detail.

A quick tip.  If you are going to a nice event but know you will be doing a lot of standing and want to wear a flat pick something in a shiny metallic.  The shine of the shoe, especially gold, just dresses up the outfit.

Most areas have a local calendar or a blog that you can follow to find out about events like this one.  Facebook is your friend when it comes to things like this.  Also, if you live in the Mandeville or Covington areas make sure you are following Northshoreparent.com.  They run monthly posts about local events.

XO, Tippy
