I’ve been going to the gym for 6 months now, and I’ve been going to the gym for 6 months now, and this isn’t your typical “I’m back in the gym” post.

Because for the first time, I didn’t return with the goal of making myself smaller or punishing myself for something I ate. I went back with the intention of doing something for 60-, 70-, and hopefully 80-year-old me.

I’ve been big. I’ve been small. But one thing that’s stayed the same through every version of my body is that I’ve always been strong.

Somewhere along the way, between raising kids, starting a business, and surviving a truly horrific diet in 2016 (DM me, seriously), I lost that strength. I wasn’t feeling connected to my body. And as someone who wants to encourage others to love themselves as they are, I struggled with how going back to the gym fit into that message.

Would I nitpick my body? Would I secretly wish to be smaller again? Would I punish myself with workouts when I didn’t “eat well”?

So I made myself four promises:
1. I wouldn’t weigh myself—at all.
2. I’d start with 2 days a week and only increase if it brought me joy.
3. I’d focus on how I felt after a workout, not how hard I could push during.
4. I’d treat movement as a gift to my joints, not punishment for imperfection.

Six months later, I can finish a full spin class without a break. I’ve discovered I love hot Pilates. Barre class feels like therapy. I like lifting heavy weights. And while I still hate pushing that damn sled across the floor, I feel like a total badass when it’s over.

I’m taking this in 4-week increments so I don’t overcommit or burn out. Sometimes I make it 5 days a week. Sometimes 3. Sometimes it’s a Pilates class on my phone. Sometimes I get to the gym. And that’s enough.

Because your relationship with your body? It’s not something you just “figure out” one day. It’s ongoing. It requires grace. It requires intention. And I’m still figuring it out, too.
You’re not doing anything wrong. You’re just t You’re not doing anything wrong.
You’re just trying to sound like everyone else when your actual power is sounding like you.

Holiday Dressing Guide – 2021

One of the saddest thing about 2020 was not putting out the Holiday Dressing Guide. So many people were pulling back on events and gathering that I decided to skip a year until we could get back into full swing with Christmas parties, Santa visits and overall holiday fun.

The last time I produced this guide was in 2019 which feels like an actual lifetime ago!

Trends – Holiday Dressing Guide

What is trending this holiday season? I am about to break it down for you.

Copper

There is always an unexpected color that comes into holiday outfits and my prediction this year is that it is going to be copper! I love the thought of adding the beautiful orangey hue to emerald green or mixing it with gold. It is a beautiful color and will look so much better on warm skin tones that traditional red.

Velvet

Always a trend for winter and holiday but this year it is really taking the place of sequins for the season. I love a sequin but velvet is more practical. Definitely something you will have more options to wear.

Embellished Shoes

Blame the Real Housewives I guess but embellished shoes are gaining a lot of popularity. Boots with chain details, rhinestone brooches on flats and sequins on heels.

Hair Accessories

I love a hat but this year it is all bows, bows, bows. I linked several below that are beyond cute!

Two Piece Sets

Moving on from fall and into the holidays two piece sets are coming with us.

Outfits

Sip and Shop / Open House

Dress – Target

There is always some fun shopping event where we live in Mandeville. Open Houses, school’s hosting markets and my favorite the sip and shop. Even though it is basically running errands we still want to be fashionable and cute.

Dress – Purple Tiger Boutique

I recently had the opportunity to attend the theater for the first time since 2020. It was so beautiful and reminded me of all of the amazing times I have had during the holidays at the theater. The Nutcrackers is simply my favorite. I always love to find something classy and elegant and not always in a traditional Christmas color.

Christmas Eve

Set – Anthropologie

I put a lot of different options in here. We usually dress up for Christmas Eve but I know there are families who keep it casual. I tried to include a little of both.

Porter and I got a preview of @smalls_sliders last Porter and I got a preview of @smalls_sliders last night. We gave it 👍🏼👍🏼 and can’t wait to go back for more #smauce. I didn’t know how filling sliders would be but we did the 2 slider combo and made it biggie smalls and it was perfect! Burgers were juicy and the Diet Coke was as crisp as McDonalds. Definitely going in our burger rotation list.

Now if we can just get them to install a @cargeauxpools I would be perfect!!

P.S. they are opening to the public THIS Tuesday so make sure your dinner plans include #smalls
