I had a lot of plans for Halloween last year and the Hurricane Ida happened. It felt like we lost more than a month of our lives, and everything was chaotic. I didn’t really start planning our family costume until September. Even being a crazy fall, our Halloween Costumes were still kind of perfect.
The Addams Family
I will be honest and tell you that we ended up not wearing these costumes on Halloween. It was so hot that night that we just couldn’t do the wigs and long sleeves. The boys also requested to be different things. They placate me with dressing up for pictures, but I think I lost them on dressing up together on Halloween night.
We did all decide on this theme together for pictures. We try to start planning our costume together in the summer. It is usually when new movies come out and a lot of our costumes have been based off of movies or tv shows (there is an easter egg here for this year’s costume). The kids had just seen the new Addams Family so this worked out perfect. Originally Porter was supposed to be cousin IT and Paxton was going to be a mix of Pugsley and Wednesday. However, Porter refused to wear the wig so here we are.
Like most of our costumes I don’t have a ton of links for you. I really prefer pulling things we have in our closets already and then I fill in from Amazon. If you want to see any of our previous costumes, you can view them here.
When I saw Disney’s Cruella last summer, I knew that was what I wanted to do for this shoot. Emma Stone was fantastic, and the entire backstory made me feel connected to the character of Estella/Cruella. The pictures came out perfect and it was so fun to do a villain for once. This may be one of my favorite costumes I have done for myself.
Looking forward to showing this year’s ideas!
