After seeing pictures of the floating witch hats and candles online I wanted to recreate it at our house for Halloween. I couldn’t find a tutorial at the time, so I decided to write one.

Witch Hats – Tutorial
When I started this project, I planned to use monofilament line to hold them up. The monofilament line was slipping off of the plastic hooks when the wind blew. I switched it upholstery thread and it worked much better. I used this upholstery thread in beige.
For the hooks I chose these 3M Round Cord Clips. We used them on the inside and outside of the house. They worked perfectly and are still hanging up three years later.
For the hats you can buy them in bulk on Amazon.

Candles – Tutorial
We used the same hooks inside as we did outside. They have stayed up for three years and we hung keys from them last Halloween and ornaments from them for Christmas.
For the candles I would recommend these candles. For hanging them, I took a long piece of monofilament line and hot glued it to either side of the top of the candle creating a loop. They are heavy so creating the loop and centering that on the hook made them hang straight. To hot glue them without burning your fingers I suggest putting a small amount of hot glue on one side of the candle and allowing it to dry for a few seconds. When it is still very warm, I would press the monofilament line into the glue and then allow it to dry all the way before doing the other side. Allow the hot glue to totally cure for 24 hours before hanging.

Last year we hung these keys rather than doing the candles again. As you can tell we are very Harry Potter inspired in our Halloween decor.
Keep it Spooky,
Tiffany
