42. I still don’t feel 40. There are still days when I think, who decided I could raise all of these kids? When does one feel like an “adult”???
I saw these pictures of Dan Levy for Bustle and I was immensely inspired. Dan has this incredible creativity that just infiltrates everything he does. There really aren’t the right words for the type of creative Dan is other than exceptional. I sent the pictures to my photographer Rachel and was like, what do you think about trying to recreate something like this? She, as always, was game.
So I want to say a little something about Rachel too. I love working with Rachel. She is a lot younger than me and I love the aesthetic she brings to my pics as well as just her overall creative personality. I love that I can come to her with an idea and she adds to it. We have an affinity for ugly buildings, vacant houses and finding little hidden gems. Most of our text messages start with, oh when we shoot again I found the most broken down building we can use. It has been a great partnership this last year.
A little bit about the shoot
The Dan Levy shoot gave me inspiration but I knew I also wanted to make it my own. Being 42 and realizing that the 1980’s were 40 years ago I started looking for a suit that would bring that 80’s vibe. This is what also gave me the idea for the caption, “Birthday Suit”. The mesh body suit was a nod to the 80’s as well as my gold chains that gave me a modern take on Mr. T (fun fact I was obsessed with him as a kid). Honestly I am hopelessly over the moon about the whole thing. It is the cats pajamas….
