How to Find the Perfect Plus Size Swimsuit

Purchasing a swimsuit online isn’t the simplest task. Especially when you are plus size. There are so many components that go into buying a swimsuit which makes it a more complicated to purchase sight unseen.

The very first thing I would tell you is, if you can, visit a store that carries plus size suits. Locally The Bra Genie is your best source for plus size suits. Target also carries plus size suits in the store although the selection is small.

If there is not a good location for you to try on locally and you need to order online there are a few things you should do. First, check the size chart and use your measuring tape. There is no way to insure a proper fit if you aren’t following their measurement guidelines the shop provided online. Second, read the reviews. I cannot stress this enough. People who take the time to write a review are usually extremely happy or extremely unhappy with a product and those are the reviews that you want to see. Third, know the return policy. Yes, you may have shopped with this retailer before online but there are times when the swim return policy is different than their regular clothing. Make sure you know what is required of a return so you do not get stuck with a suit you can’t wear.

I rounded up, reviewed, and gave you notes on all of my favorite plus size swimsuit styles and brands to make shopping a little more simple for you. Plus I included a whish list so you know what I am looking at this season.

I purchased this suit from The Bra Genie but the brand is Modcloth. This was the first swimsuit I had spent more than $40 on in a long time and I was very pleased with the quality. This suit lasted me all summer and will still work this summer too.

Why do I like it? I love that there was support across the back to keep my breasts in place and it isn’t too low cut. I love the cut out which makes the suit feel sassy.

My Top Three Picks. Bathing Beauty / Hailey Swimsuit / Kelsie Swimsuit

This suit (top/ bottom) is also from last year and they repeated the size and style this year. This is one of my favorite suits but I may be partial since it got me featured on the Target Website for several weeks. Target has done better and better each year with their plus size suits. For the price point you can’t beat it!

Why do I like it? The top is great with the double hook and keeps everything secure. I also really love the cheeky bottom!

**Note** I find that some of the Target suits are short in the torso. I typically move up one size because there is nothing more uncomfortable that an swimsuit that it too small.

My Top Three Picks. White floral smocked one piece / Blue ribbed bikini top / Smocked Bandeau

Torrid has an endless array of cute, bright, patterned suits in one or two piece options. This (top/ bottom) is similar to the one that I purchased from them last year.

Why do I like it? I love that the top has good coverage without a wire.

My Top Three Picks. Underwire One Piece in Teal / Leopard Swim Top / Green Palm Print Bottoms

Kortni Jeane

I got my first KJ suit last year and it has held up incredibly well. These pieces (top/ bottom) are the same cut as the ones I received last year.

Why do I like it? I love that their suit patterns are easy to match season to season. I also love that this top was convertible.

My Top Three Picks. V Neck Top / Swing Top / Ruffled Up Bottoms

Time and Tru

Truly one of the gems I have found at Walmart this past year. The suits are cute and comfortable and you cannot beat the price point. This is similar to the one I bought last year.

Why do I like it? I love that the back on most of the one piece suits are high and keep everything securely in place.

My Top Three Picks. Rooting for you / Wildflower / One Shoulder Color Block

Plus size suits have come a long way in the last few years. It makes me happy to see that we have moved past plus size women only being able to get black swimwear. Looking forward to trying and reviewing more suits for you this summer.
