Welcome to the Sunday Skim your weekly recap of all things style, home, entertaining, family, midlife, community and shopping.
What’s Been Happening. Does anyone else think it’s crazy that it is still technically spring? I feel like my heart moved onto summer about a month ago and each week when I write spring it just feels wrong. This week was equal parts fun and crazy. We had VBS with our church and while it is one of the best weeks of our summer each year it is exhausting. I also had planned my blog luncheon for Saturday and midweek we had a swim meet. In my mind summer always seems relaxing but in the thick of it I realize it is just as busy as any other time of the year.
Style. My friend Natalie found the Vineyard Vines for Target pants I had been searching for. She texted me from the store with a few different pieces in my size. I received them last week and made these three fun outfits with the pants.
Home. Kids love to decorate for holidays. These are some easy and fun 4th of July decorating projects.
Entertaining. I hosted my annual blog luncheon on Saturday. We had a wonderful time and I was able to serve some of my favorite things like homemade pimento cheese, blackberry mint juleps and rose’. I made my mint juleps in a pitcher and it took a little bit to get the recipe right. I usually make them just one at a time so I wanted to share the recipe.
Mint Juleps by the pitcher
– 750 ml Bourbon
– 1 cup mint simple syrup (I made my own which is very simple to do. 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar over medium heat until all the sugar is absorbed into the water. I put fresh mint in while it was heating. Do Not Boil.)
– 1 can club soda
– fresh mint leaves
– I also threw in a handful of blackberries to soak in the bourbon and they were delicious to eat when the pitcher was empty.
Family. Our boys make these shirts every year and love doing it. This is an easy and fun project and all the details are here.
Community. What are you up to on Friday night? Check out this event.
