Welcome to the Sunday Skim your weekly recap of all things style, home, entertaining, family, midlife, community and shopping.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Mother’s Day is such a special holiday for me. Something people don’t know is that in 2012 I told God I didn’t think I could go through another Mother’s Day without a baby. I prayed and prayed that somehow he would soothe my momma heart for that weekend even if it was just for a moment. A social worked called us on Thursday and placed us with a sweet baby girl who needed a home for the weekend. It was the first time that Justin and I cared for a baby for more than a few hours and such a learning experience for us. She was with us a short three days but we think of her often. Little did we know that our son would come to live with us just a few short months later.
If you are waiting for a baby please have hope. God hears your prayers. He has not abandoned you. He is listening and he wants nothing more than to soothe your aching soul. I have lived this life. I have walked this path. Navigating Mother’s Day when you want to be a mother is an impossible burden to bear. If it’s too hard, don’t go. If it’s too painful, don’t do it. Guard your heart.
It seems silly to launch into the Sunday Skim after that but I really wanted to take this week and honor some women in my life who are amazing bloggers and feature them in each of my categories.
Style. Savannah with Following Sunshine always makes me smile and brings the drama with pictures. Seriously, follow her on Instagram. I loved her post this week about hats for summer. I am a sucker for a good hat and this list is perfect.
Home. Angelle Marix, Dashing Darlin, recently redid her laundry room to make it more functional for her family of six. You can read more about it here. I have to say it is one of the prettiest laundry rooms I have ever seen!
Entertaining. Marissa Wehrer is a local Blogger in New Orleans who writes ITSRISS. This week she had a great post about festivals that will be coming up over the summer.
Family. This is an older post but Caitlin Milligan, Milligan Movement, knocked it out of the park with this recipe. Everyone in our family loves it!
Midlife. Jessica Windham with Camp Sweat has some of the best workouts on her Instagram story. She always gives me new ideas for the gym! This was a post she did in January about exercise you can do at work.
Community. My friend and fellow blogger Alisha Reed is the owner of NOLA Bougie. She wrote a great post earlier this week about how you can support Influencers who are local to you or ones you know personally.
Shopping. January Rizzo is the Queen of leopard print and burnt orange. She just wrote a great post on finding a good, affordable swimsuit here.
