The Sunday Skim – Spring 2019 – Fifty One

Welcome to the Sunday Skim. Your weekly recap of all things style, home, entertaining, family, midlife, community and shopping.

What’s Been Happening… I have been in absolute overload since Mardi Gras. We finished a crazy week in New Orleans with my promenade on March 1st. Left three days later for a week in Disney. Got back and prepared for my birthday which was derailed by kids getting the flu. Fast forward to last weekend and a birthday re-do and New Orleans Fashion Week. The Sunday Skim is one of my favorite posts to write each week but it is also the one that takes me a while to compile so we took March as a hiatus. Sometimes you just need a break.

Style. It is time to think about shorts. Even with this little cold snap that is upon us it’s time to start getting your warm weather clothes in order because the temps are supposed to be back in the 80’s by the weekend. High waisted shorts are a great addition to your spring and summer wardrobe. They are easy to wear, can be dressed up and hide any midsection flaws you want to cover. I purchased these from Unique Vintage and since festival season is upon us I styled them perfect for any fest you plan on attending. {This post contains affiliate links}

Home. I have a list of things that I like to accomplish when the kids are on spring break. This list is a few things you may want to add to your spring cleaning.

Entertaining. Spring is such a lovely time to enjoy the outdoors and having dinner outside is one of our favorite things to do. It is easy to host friend outdoors too because the kids can play and the grown ups can eat and have cocktails. These are 9 great ideas for an easy outdoor evening.

Family. I really want to tie dye shirts with the boys this summer but I have never done it before. One of my friends on Facebook was doing it with her kids the other day and I decided to do a little research. It looks a lot easier than I thought and I found this easy tutorial on how to tie the shirts here.

Midlife. I started working with Whitney Abraham about two weeks ago on her intermittent fasting program, Faster Way to Weight Loss. I am about to enter week two and feeling really good. Week one I was a little tired but this week I really had so much energy from eating more regularly and also eating more calories in general. They are starting another round on April 8th and if you are interested in learning more you can check it out here.

Community. Chevron will be hosting their family friendly activity hub at French Quarter Festival called the STEM Zone!

The Chevron Children’s STEM Zone
Toulouse Street at the Natchez Wharf on the River — Saturday and Sunday, 11AM-5PMFeaturing the Chevron “STEM World’s Fair” with interactive, fascinating fun for families!  This year’s activities will showcase each of the 7 continents, and the galaxy, while incorporating the elements of “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) into hands-on learning activities for children. Community partners include: Chevron, Audubon Nature Institute, The Water Institute, Project Lead the Way, FabLab NOLA, National WWII Museum, Rebuilding Together New Orleans, Mad Science LA, STEM NOLA, Children’s Museum of St. Tammany, The Nature Conservancy, and the National Parks Service.  Learn about the world and enjoy performances for kids and families on the National Park Service Stage!

Shopping. Have you heard? Anthropologie is now carrying a size inclusive line from 00 to a 26W. The line is incredible and almost all of the regular size dresses are now available in plus. As a curvy girl I was only able to fit into a handful of pieces in their regular line so I am excited to try it all out! Check it out here.
