The Sunday Skim 6/4/17

Happy Anniversary to my Mom and Dad!  They are celebrating 41 years of marriage today.  They went to dinner last night and sent me a selife.  My mom is wearing a dress I had featured in one of my Instagram pics.  Love them!

The Nordstrom Half Year Sales has come to an end and we all cried a little on the inside.  Just about a little over a month until the NSale starts.  I will be running a lot of special posts when that begins.

Until then we all need to start thinking about Father’s Day.  Old Navy is running an awesome Dad’s and Dudes Sale and men’s clothing and accessories are 50% off and since you are doing something nice for someone else you should take advantage of their 40% off dresses sale for yourself!

Check back this week though because I will be doing a Father’s Day gift guide for you guys to look at.  I don’t know about y’all but I am at a loss on what to buy my dad a lot of years.

Fall is quickly approaching.  I know what you are thinking…  Tiffany it is barely summer.  While that is true in the retail world it is not and a lot of stores are already having summer sales and will be replacing merchandise with Fall and Winter shortly.

So what does that have to do with health?  Well thinking about Fall makes me think about jeans and how I want to have a nicer, plumper, bottom to fill out those jeans.  I have been working with my trainer and am definitely focusing on this area.  I came across this quick workout the other day and I thought I would share.

Food and Drink

Have you thought about what you are going to do for Father’s Day?  We usually do something at home and save ourselves the hustle and bustle of eating out.  However summer means BBQ and since I am not one to cook on the grill it means I have to come up with some new ideas.  It’s Big Daddy’s day so I’m not going to ask him to grill…  right???

These are two easy recipes to get that delicious BBQ feel without having to ruin your makeup in the sweltering heat.

Pulled Chicken

3 to 4 chicken breasts
1 bottle of BBQ Sauce
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1/3 cup brown sugar
3 to 4 cloves of garlic smashed

Add chicken to the crock pot.  In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients below the chicken.  When thoroughly mixed add to crock pot over the chicken.  Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours.  Shred with two forks.  Serve it on buns or in baked potatoes or in lettuce wraps.  We love to top ours with cheddar cheese, pickles and a little ranch dressing.

Apple BBQ Bacon Wrapped Chicken

This is a recipe I am modifying from a Wildtree party that I attended recently.

3 to 4 chicken breasts
1 pound of bacon
1 cup of apple sauce
1 cup of BBQ sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste

Wrap the chicken breasts with the bacon and place in the bottom of the slow cooker.  In a bowl mix BBQ sauce, apple sauce, garlic, salt and pepper.  Top chicken with mixture and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours.  Right before they are finished turn the broiler on in your oven.  Remove chicken from the slow cooker and place in a cast iron pan or heavy bottom pan.  Place under the broiler for 4 to 5 minutes or until bacon looks crispy on the edges.

Two summer birthdays mean we are in full on party planning mode.  This year my big boys have asked to have a pool party at our health club and they want to have it be shark themed.  Mean sharks to be specific… NOT happy smiling sharks… according to Pax.

I have to admit I was a bit nervous about the theme because how many shark themed party items are there?  Well to my surprise there are a lot of options out there and I have some great ideas.  You can follow my party start to finish on Pinterest at The Big’s Shark Themed Birthday Pool Party.

Enjoy your Sunday and the rest of your week!  We start Vacation Bible School on Monday and everyone is looking forward to it!
